6 August – Thursday 5.00 PM – Aalborg Monastery. Guided tour of Aalborg’s oldest preserved buildings. Guiding in Danish and English.
The Monastery of the Holy Ghost, tucked away like a peaceful oasis in the heart of Aalborg, offers a wealth of atmosphere and fascinating stories from the time when monks and nuns lived here.We will visit the newly renovated refectory and the monastery’s chapter house, which features beautiful wall paintings dating from the early 1500s.
Aalborg’s first Latin school began in these historic buildings, and during World War II the monastery became the base for one of Denmark’s first resistance groups, the Churchill Club.
There will also be an opportunity to visit the church, unless a private event is taking place.
The tour lasts approximately 1.5 hours.
We meet at the fountain, with entrance from C. W. Obels Square, opposite Søgaards Brewery.
